Portable clip-on LED light

The Neewer Selfie Light HY-00001 is a rechargeable clip-on LED panel designed for phones, tablets and laptops. It supplies 80 LED emitters with a 90RA colour rendering index across a 3000K to 6500K range. The unit weighs 6.7 ounces and measures 4.52 by 2.95 by 2.36 inches. A built-in 2000mAh battery charges via USB-C in two hours.

Upgrade from built-in flash

This light replaces the harsh forward-facing flash found on most phones and the fixed-colour LED bars on basic ring lights. The jump is worth it when you need continuous, colour-accurate illumination for video calls, vlogging or makeup application. Five brightness steps and five colour modes let you match ambient light instead of overpowering it. MTBF is rated at 130 minutes at full output.

USB-C power and runtime limits

The light draws power exclusively through its USB-C port from laptops, power banks or wall adapters. At 100 percent brightness the battery lasts 130 minutes; at 10 percent it stretches to 15 hours. There is no pass-through charging, so the unit cannot run while plugged into a dead power bank. The clip opens wide enough for most phone cases but may not grip thick laptop bezels securely.

Questions about this item

How thick a device edge can the built-in clip grip?

The clip opens to fit edges up to about 2.36 inches deep, matching the light's own thickness, so it holds most phones, tablets and laptop lids.

Does the USB-C port need a special charger or cable to reach full power?

Any standard USB-C source — laptop, power bank, wall adapter or car charger — delivers the 5 V input the 2000 mAh cell expects; a full charge takes roughly 2 hours.

How long will the 2000 mAh battery last before it needs replacing?

Rated run-time is 130 minutes at 100 % brightness or 15 hours at 10 %; after several hundred charge cycles capacity will drop and the unit will need a new battery.
