USB-C Gigabit Ethernet adapter for DP Alt Mode

The Nippon Labs 30UC-CGB connects a USB 3.1 Type-C port to an RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet jack. It is intended for laptops, tablets or smartphones whose USB-C socket supports DP Alt Mode or Thunderbolt 3. An Ethernet cable is required to complete the link. The white adapter adds a wired network option where Wi-Fi is unavailable or undesired.

Sustained 1000 Mbps throughput over USB 3.1

The adapter negotiates 10, 100 or 1000 Mbps Ethernet speeds and uses the USB 3.1 5 Gbps pipe for data transfer. Because the bus bandwidth exceeds the Gigabit line rate, the link can maintain full wire speed during long file copies or streaming sessions without the thermal throttling sometimes seen on lesser USB 2.0 dongles. No driver installation is needed on supported operating systems.

Verify your USB-C port supports DP Alt Mode

Before ordering, confirm that the host device’s USB-C implementation includes DisplayPort Alternate Mode or Thunderbolt 3; a plain USB 2.0 or power-only Type-C port will not pass Ethernet traffic. The product documentation lists compatible models from Apple, Dell, ASUS, Lenovo, HP, Huawei, Samsung and others, but the list is not exhaustive. Check the manufacturer’s specifications for your exact device.

Questions about this item

Does the 30UC-CGB adapter generate noticeable heat or draw extra power when I run a wired Gigabit link all day?

The adapter draws power only from the USB-C port and has no fan, so heat output stays low during continuous 10/100/1000 Mbps use.

My laptop only has a USB-C port — does it need to support Thunderbolt 3 or DP Alt Mode for the 30UC-CGB to work?

Yes, the host device must provide a USB 3.1 Type-C port with DP Alt Mode or Thunderbolt 3; plain USB 2.0-C ports will not activate the Gigabit Ethernet link.

Will the 30UC-CGB work on my 2015 MacBook and a 2016 MacBook Pro without installing any driver?

Both models are listed as compatible and the adapter requires no extra driver software on macOS or Windows.
