Shielded Cat7 patch cable

This new Nippon Labs cable is a Cat 7 shielded (SSTP) patch lead built with 26 AWG stranded pure copper conductors and an overall braided shield. It is rated for 600 MHz transmission frequency and terminated with RJ45 plugs that carry 50 micron gold-plated contacts. The 6 ft grey jacket uses CM-rated PVC and follows the T568B wiring standard. It suits anyone wiring a short Gigabit Ethernet link between a PC, router, switch or server.

Home and office Gigabit runs

The 6 ft length fits desktop-to-switch or patch-panel connections inside a rack or on a desk where full shielding helps reject interference. Builders needing longer horizontal runs beyond 100 meters or installers who require plenum-rated jackets for air-handling spaces should choose a different cable type. The fixed length also means it cannot replace bulk cable for custom-cut installations.

600 MHz Cat 7 rating

The single specification that decides fit is the 600 MHz Cat 7 rating, which guarantees the bandwidth and crosstalk performance required for certified Gigabit Ethernet over the full 100 meter channel. If your network equipment or installer specification calls for a lower category or an unshielded design, this cable exceeds that requirement but adds cost and stiffness you may not need.

Questions about this item

How do I plug the RJ45 connectors in without snapping the molded boots?

Align the tab on each RJ45 shielded plug with the port latch, push straight in until you feel a click, then route the cable so the 26 AWG stranded copper and double shield do not bend sharply at the boot.

Will the gold-plated contacts or the CM PVC jacket need replacement after a few years?

The 50 micron gold-plated contacts resist oxidation and the CM-rated PVC jacket is rated for in-wall use; neither is a wear item under normal indoor conditions.

At what point does the 600 MHz rating stop guaranteeing error-free throughput on a 6 ft run?

The cable meets Cat.7 specifications up to 100 meters, so a 6 ft length stays well within the 600 MHz certified distance for Gigabit Ethernet.
