The Nippon Labs 60CAT8-5-30RD is a five-foot Category 8 patch cord built for 40 Gbps links at 2000 MHz. It uses 30 AWG stranded pure copper conductors and U/FTP foil shielding to support emerging 25GBASE-T and 40GBASE-T networks while remaining fully backward compatible with earlier categories.

Practical limits of Cat8

Cat8 reaches its rated 40 Gbps only over short runs; the standard limits maximum channel length to 30 metres for 25GBASE-T and 40GBASE-T operation. Beyond that distance the cable falls back to lower speeds, so it is not suited for long horizontal runs between floors or buildings.

Build quality and daily use

Each twisted pair is individually foil wrapped and the RJ45 plugs carry 50 micron gold-plated contacts inside metal-shielded housings. A soft-flex push tab and moulded strain relief make insertion and removal smooth, while the slim CM PVC jacket routes easily through tight cable trays and around corners.
