Heavy-duty snap-off utility knife for frequent

The Olfa PL-1 snap-off utility knife uses an 18 mm carbon steel blade that breaks away in eight segments. Its ratchet auto blade lock secures the edge during cutting, while the ABS handle stores six spare blades for quick replacement without tools.

Sustained cutting performance on abrasive materials

The carbon steel segments stay sharp through repeated scoring of roofing felt, drywall paper and carpet backing. The ratchet lock prevents the blade from sliding back under heavy downward pressure, so each segment delivers a consistent edge until it is snapped off.

Replaces fixed-blade knives that require manual

Workers who change blades several times a shift will save time with the auto-lock and onboard storage. If your tasks rarely need a fresh edge, a simpler fixed-blade knife may be sufficient.

Questions about this item

Does the carbon-steel blade on the Olfa PL-1 generate heat during prolonged cutting?

The carbon-steel blade cuts without generating noticeable heat, even during extended roofing or drywall work.

What surface or backing must I have ready before using the snap-off segments?

A stable cutting surface such as a board or mat is needed so the 18 mm blade can snap cleanly against a firm edge.

Will the 6 in overall length fit in the same tool belt pouch as my older fixed-blade knives?

At 6 in long and 29/32 in thick, the yellow ABS handle slides into most standard utility-knife pouches alongside older blades.
