3.5 mm Y-splitter for headset and mic

This adapter converts a single 3.5 mm TRRS headset plug into separate 3.5 mm headphone and microphone connectors for a PC or laptop. It enables use of a combined headset with VOIP applications such as Skype and other chat programs. Gold-plated contacts and oxygen-free copper conductors aim to maintain signal quality. The compact Y-cable design fits easily in a laptop bag.

Users with combined headset plugs on separate PC

The adapter suits anyone connecting a smartphone-style headset to a computer that provides distinct headphone and microphone ports. It will not help if the computer only has a single combined audio jack or if the headset already uses dual plugs. Buyers who need to split one source to two headphones should look for a different splitter type.

Gold-plated contacts and oxygen-free copper

The listed materials are intended to improve conductivity and durability compared to unplated alternatives. No additional software, drivers or accessories are included in the package. The adapter itself is the only component supplied.

Questions about this item

My laptop has separate headphone and microphone ports — will this adapter let me use a single 3.5 mm headset with both?

Yes, the adapter splits one 3.5 mm female connector into two male plugs, one for the headphone jack and one for the microphone jack on your PC or laptop.

Can I still use this splitter with an older smartphone that only has a single 3.5 mm audio jack?

The dual male plugs are designed for separate headphone and microphone ports, so they will not both fit a single combined 3.5 mm jack on older phones.

How can I confirm the gold-plated contacts are making a solid connection after I plug everything in?

You should hear clear stereo audio through the headphones and your voice should be picked up cleanly in VOIP apps such as Skype or Google Voice.
