SATA DVD burner for 5.25" bays

The Optiarc AD-5290S is a new internal optical drive that fits a standard 5.25 inch bay and connects via SATA. It writes DVD+R and DVD-R at 24X, DVD+RW at 8X, DVD-RW at 6X, and DVD dual-layer media at 8X. CD-R writes at 48X and CD-RW at 32X. A 512 KB buffer and tray-load mechanism complete the package.

Suits archival and duplication workloads

Builders who need reliable disc authoring for long-term storage or multi-drive duplicator towers will benefit from the drive's stabilisation controls and broad media compatibility. The black bezel matches dark chassis aesthetics. Users who require Blu-ray reading or writing, or who lack a 5.25 inch bay and SATA port, should consider other form factors.

24X maximum DVD write speed

The single figure that determines whether this drive meets a project timeline is the 24X peak write rate for single-layer DVD+R and DVD-R media. All other write and read speeds scale from this baseline, so buyers can judge throughput directly from the 24X rating.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 24X DVD+R model or the 16X DVD-ROM model?

The AD-5290S is a single drive that writes DVD+R and DVD-R at 24X and reads DVD-ROM at 16X, so there is no separate version to choose.

What does the 24X DVD write speed mean for actual burn time?

The 24X rating is the maximum write speed for DVD+R and DVD-R; real-world time depends on the disc and system, and the drive's stabilisation features keep the burn steady.

How does the SATA interface affect the drive's performance ceiling?

SATA provides the data link to the PC, while the drive's own 24X write, 16X DVD read and 48X CD read limits set the practical throughput.
