USB 2.0 extender over Cat5e/6

The Orei USB-EX165-K extends a USB 2.0 connection up to 165 feet using a single Cat5e or Cat6 cable. It provides two USB ports at the receiver end for peripherals such as webcams, keyboards, mice, printers or touch screens. The kit includes transmitter, receiver, power adapter and manual. No driver installation is required on Windows, macOS, Android or Linux.

Maximum reliable distance 130 feet

Although the product is marketed for 165 feet, the manufacturer notes that transmission is only guaranteed up to 130 feet (40 metres). This is the single specification that decides whether the extender will reach your device. Plan cable runs accordingly and verify the path length before purchase.

Sustained high-speed USB 2.0 throughput

The extender maintains USB 2.0 high-speed signalling at 480 Mbps across the full cable length. Power over cable delivers supply from the single receiver-side adapter, so the transmitter needs no local power. This supports continuous operation for video conferencing, streaming cameras or interactive displays without the signal dropouts common in shorter burst tests.

Questions about this item

How far can the 480 Mbps USB 2.0 signal actually travel over Cat5e or Cat6 cable?

The extender delivers full USB 2.0 throughput up to 130 feet (40 metres); the headline 165-foot figure applies only under ideal conditions.

What does the single power adapter at the receiver end actually supply?

Power Over Cable feeds both the receiver and the transmitter through the same Ethernet run, so only one outlet is needed at the far end.

Will the transmitter and receiver units fit inside a standard wall-mounted network box?

Each unit measures 12 cm wide, so they sit on a desk or shelf rather than inside a standard keystone wall plate.
