ORICO R40 2TB Portable SSD

The ORICO R40 is a 2TB external solid-state drive built for users who move large files between devices. It connects via USB-C and delivers sequential speeds up to 3700MB/s. A built-in cooling fan and aluminium alloy chassis manage heat during sustained workloads. The drive supports plug-and-play operation with UASP acceleration.

Suits creators and IT pros needing sustained speed

Content creators, developers and system administrators who transfer multi-gigabyte projects will benefit from the active cooling and 40Gbps interface. Users who only move small documents or backups occasionally will not need the extra thermal headroom. Buyers requiring more than 2TB of capacity should consider higher-capacity drives.

40Gbps USB-C interface defines the ceiling

The drive’s 40Gbps USB-C connection sets the maximum theoretical bandwidth at 40Gbps. Real-world throughput reaches 3700MB/s when the host port supports that bandwidth. On slower USB 3.2 or USB 3.1 ports the drive will operate at the host’s lower limit. Verify your device’s port specification before purchase.

Questions about this item

How loud is the built-in fan and does the aluminium shell keep the drive cool during all-day transfers?

A built-in cooling fan and aluminium alloy shell with dedicated ducts keep the SSD cool even during sustained high-speed operation.

Which cable or port do I need on my laptop to reach the 3700 MB/s speed?

The box includes a dual-headed USB-C to USB-A and USB-C cable for plug-and-play use on either port type.

Will this drive work with my older USB 3.0 Type-A laptop and still be faster than a mechanical disk?

It connects to USB 3.0 Type-A via the supplied cable and will run at the host port's maximum speed, still well above mechanical drive rates.
