HP ProLiant BL465c G7 DL980 G7 upgrade

This OWC kit delivers 64GB of DDR3L ECC registered memory across four 16GB modules. It targets administrators who need to expand capacity in compatible HP ProLiant BL465c G7 or DL980 G7 servers. The modules run at 1600MHz with CL11 latency and 1.35V operation. They are not compatible with standard desktop computers or unbuffered memory configurations.

Four matched 16GB modules simplify installation

The kit provides four identical 2Rx4 240-pin RDIMMs that install together for immediate capacity gains. ECC registered operation detects and corrects single-bit errors to protect data integrity in server workloads. JEDEC and RoHS compliance ensure the modules meet industry specifications for reliable operation. No additional software or accessories are included beyond the memory modules themselves.

64GB total capacity supports virtualization

The 64GB configuration handles multiple virtual machines, large database workloads, and memory-intensive applications on supported ProLiant platforms. DDR3L 1600 speed provides adequate bandwidth for legacy server tasks while the 1.35V low voltage reduces power draw compared to standard DDR3. Capacity limits are defined by the server's maximum supported memory and available DIMM slots.

Questions about this item

Will the 2Rx4 registered DIMMs need any firmware updates or battery-backed spares later?

No firmware or battery-backed spares are required for the 2Rx4 registered DIMMs; they operate as standard JEDEC DDR3L 1600 modules at 1.35 V.

What limit appears first when the 64 GB kit runs at full load in a ProLiant BL465c G7?

The memory controller caps bandwidth at the DDR3L 1600 PC3L-12800 rate, so sustained throughput cannot exceed that ceiling.

How much extra heat and power do the four 1.35 V modules add when the server runs all day?

Each 16 GB module draws 1.35 V with no heat spreader, so total power stays within the DDR3L low-voltage envelope and adds minimal thermal load.
