Mercury Elite Pro Dual 2TB RAID

The OWC Mercury Elite Pro Dual is a desktop external storage solution that houses two 3.5-inch 7200 RPM hard drives in a silver aluminum enclosure. It provides a total capacity of 2.0TB and connects via USB 3.2 at 5Gb/s and eSATA interfaces. Hardware RAID supports modes 0, 1, SPAN and JBOD, selectable by an external switch. The unit includes a USB-A to USB-B cable, an eSATA cable and an external power supply.

Creative workflows and backups

This drive suits professionals who need hardware RAID redundancy or combined capacity for video editing, project archives and system backups on Mac systems from OS X 10.6 through macOS 10.14. It is not for users who require a single-drive portable device, bus-powered operation, or internal installation inside a computer chassis. Buyers needing more than 2.0TB of raw space or a different form factor should consider other options.

Hardware RAID mode switch

The defining specification is the hardware RAID controller that offers RAID 0 for maximum throughput up to 407MB/s, RAID 1 for mirroring, SPAN for linear capacity and JBOD for independent drive access. The mode is changed by a physical switch on the enclosure without software utilities. This determines whether the unit prioritises speed, data protection or flexible volume management for the connected workstation.
