Rugged laptop for field work

The Panasonic Toughbook CF-31 is a fully rugged 13.1-inch laptop built to MIL-STD-810G, MIL-STD-461F and IP65 standards. It ships new with Windows 10 Pro and includes a digitizer pen and power adapter. The sunlight-viewable XGA touchscreen supports gloved operation in outdoor environments. This unit suits mobile workers who need a durable computer that survives drops, vibration and water exposure.

Passive thermal design and battery life

The single-core Intel Core i5 processor runs at 2.5GHz without active cooling noise in typical office or field tasks. The manufacturer highlights up to 18 hours of battery life on a single charge. Wireless connectivity uses 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth 4.0 for peripheral links. Gigabit LAN provides wired network access when available.

Verizon 4G LTE embedded modem

This specific configuration includes a factory-installed Verizon 4G LTE module for cellular data on that carrier network. Buyers who need multi-carrier compatibility or support for newer 5G bands cannot use this built-in modem for those purposes. The 500GB hard drive and 4GB of DDR3 800 memory are user-accessible for future upgrades if required.

Questions about this item

How do I install the digitizer pen on the CF-31 and what step do people miss?

The digitizer pen is included and works immediately on the 13.1-inch XGA touchscreen; the common oversight is forgetting to calibrate the pen in Windows 10 Pro tablet settings before first use.

What maintenance or replacement will the CF-31 need later?

The 500GB HDD and 4GB DDR3 800 memory (2 GB x 2) are the primary user-replaceable components; the HDD may need replacement if it develops errors, and memory can be upgraded within the two SO-DIMM slots.

What limit appears first on the CF-31 during sustained heavy workloads?

The single-core Intel Core i5 2.5GHz processor and 4GB DDR3 800 memory will bottleneck performance before the MIL-STD-810G thermal design becomes a constraint.
