Purpose-built firewall appliance

The Partaker R6-C3758-32G-1TB is a 1U rack-mount network security device built around an Intel Atom C3758 processor with AES-NI hardware encryption. It ships with 32 GB of DDR4 memory and a 1 TB NVME SSD, providing a ready-to-deploy platform for open-source firewall distributions such as OPNsense and pfSense. The appliance targets administrators who need a compact, low-power gateway for branch offices or data-centre edge locations.

Sustained-load behaviour

The 25 W TDP and ball-bearing silent fan allow continuous 24/7 operation in temperatures up to 50 °C without thermal throttling. Six Intel I211 and I350 1GbE ports plus four X553 10G SFP+ interfaces maintain wire-speed forwarding under heavy VPN or intrusion-prevention workloads, while the Atom’s eight cores keep encryption offload stable during prolonged traffic spikes. UEFI boot and watchdog timers ensure automatic recovery after power events.

Upgrade path and fit

This unit replaces older 1U boxes limited to 1GbE uplinks or lacking AES-NI, delivering 10G fibre connectivity and hardware crypto in the same 484 x 252 x 48 mm footprint. It is not suited for deployments requiring more than 64 GB RAM, additional PCIe x8 cards beyond the single slot, or redundant hot-swap power supplies. Builders needing higher core counts or dual-CPU redundancy should evaluate larger platforms.

Questions about this item

How loud and hot does the 25 W Atom C3758 get when the unit runs 24/7?

The processor uses a ball-bearing silent cooling fan and has a 25 W TDP, so it stays cool and quiet during continuous operation.

Which cables and transceivers must I supply to use the 6 RJ-45 and 4 SFP+ ports?

You provide Cat5e or better copper cables for the six 1 GbE RJ-45 ports and compatible SFP+ modules with fibre patch cords for the four 10 GbE SFP+ ports.

Will my existing 1 GbE switches and 10 GbE uplinks work with the I211, I350 and X553 controllers?

Yes, the two I211 and four I350 ports negotiate 10/100/1000 Mbps, while the four X553 SFP+ ports operate at 10 GbE, so both speed tiers are supported.
