8×40 Porro prism waterproof binocular

The Pentax 65871 SP is a full-size Porro prism binocular with 8× magnification and 40 mm objective lenses. Its nitrogen-purged, JIS Class 6 waterproof body maintains optical alignment in wet conditions. Multi-layer coatings on all lens surfaces maximise light transmission for bright, contrast-rich images in low light.

Suited for dawn and dusk observation.

Bird watchers, stargazers and nature enthusiasts benefit from the large aperture and wide 110 m field of view at 1000 m. The full-size Porro design delivers deep three-dimensional viewing but is heavier and bulkier than roof-prism models. Buyers who need a lightweight packable optic should look at smaller formats.

JIS Class 6 waterproof rating

The binocular is sealed to JIS Class 6 and nitrogen purged, so it withstands heavy rain and immersion without internal fogging. This protection keeps the optics clear during extended outdoor use in wet weather. Without this rating the instrument would be vulnerable to moisture damage and internal condensation.

Questions about this item

What does 8x magnification mean for real viewing distance?

Objects appear eight times closer than with the naked eye, so a subject at 1000 m looks as if it were at a fraction of that distance.

How does the 40 mm objective lens affect brightness?

The 40 mm objective lens gathers more light than smaller models, giving brighter images in low light such as dawn or dusk.

What does the 110 m field of view at 1000 m tell me about the picture width?

At a distance of 1000 m you can see a scene 110 m wide from edge to edge, which is useful for tracking moving subjects.
