Extend Optical Cables with Two Couplers

This pack supplies two Toslink female-to-female couplers that join two optical cables into a longer run. The adapters suit home-theatre owners, console gamers and anyone routing SPDIF signals between TVs, soundbars, AV receivers or Blu-ray players. No active electronics are involved, so the digital audio stream passes through unchanged.

Verify Connector Type and Cable Length Before Buying

Both ends of each coupler accept standard square Toslink plugs, so every cable in the chain must terminate in that connector. The adapter adds no signal amplification, therefore the combined cable length must stay within the source device’s rated optical reach. Check that your equipment uses Toslink rather than mini-Toslink or coaxial SPDIF, because this coupler cannot bridge those formats.

Passive Design Preserves Signal Over Extended Runs

Gold-plated contacts resist corrosion and maintain low-loss transmission for 5.1 and 7.1 surround formats such as Dolby Digital and DTS. The PVC housing protects the internal alignment during repeated connections. Because the coupler is entirely passive, it introduces no latency, jitter or power requirement, making its behaviour identical to a single continuous cable of the same total length.

Questions about this item

Does the pack include optical cables or only the two female-to-female couplers?

The pack contains two black female-to-female couplers; optical cables are not included and must be purchased separately.

Both couplers in the 2-pack are identical, so is there any capacity or version difference to consider?

Both units are the same Steren OpticalCoupler2pack model with gold-plated connectors and black PVC casing; no alternative versions or capacities exist.

Will using one of these couplers degrade 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound from my console to the AV receiver?

The adapter is designed to transmit the signal without affecting quality, so 5.1 and 7.1 digital audio pass through unchanged.
