Mobile 4G hotspot for portable internet

The Planet Halo PH4G is a USB-powered UFI dongle built on the Qualcomm MDM platform. It delivers 4G LTE connectivity to laptops, tablets or IoT devices through a standard USB 2.0 interface. A built-in SIM slot and microSD card reader supporting up to 64 GB cards add storage flexibility. The white enclosure measures 9.4 cm by 2.9 cm by 1.2 cm and weighs 15 g.

Thermals noise and power in daily use

The device draws 5 V at 1 A from any USB host and operates between minus 20 °C and 60 °C. With no moving parts it runs completely silent during normal browsing or sensor telemetry. The tri-colour LED indicator shows signal and data status without generating audible noise. Typical office or vehicle deployments stay well within the thermal envelope.

Sustained load behaviour on LTE networks

Under continuous download the modem reaches a maximum of 150 Mbps downstream and 50 Mbps upstream on supported bands including 700, 850, 1700, 1900 and 2100 MHz. Extended sessions such as fleet telematics or VPDN tunnels remain stable within the rated temperature range. The unit does not throttle due to heat because it lacks active cooling. Buyers needing carrier aggregation or 5G NR should consider other product lines.

Questions about this item

How do I install the PH4G on Windows and what step do users often miss?

Plug the USB 2.0 interface into the computer, insert an activated standard SIM, and the driver installs automatically; the step often missed is verifying the APN profile for AT&T or T-Mobile before first use

What maintenance or replacement will the PH4G need over time?

No internal battery exists, so only the SIM or microSD card up to 64 GB may need swapping; keep the USB port and vents free of dust for reliable 5 V / 1 A operation

What limit appears first during sustained use of the PH4G?

Continuous throughput caps at 150 Mbps down and 50 Mbps up, and the casing reaches its 60 °C operating ceiling before thermal throttling reduces speeds
