Duplication-grade DVD burner for audio archiving

The Plextor PX-891SAF is a new internal half-height SATA optical drive built for accurate CD and DVD recording. It targets users who need reliable disc duplication and high-fidelity audio burning in a desktop or server chassis. The bare drive includes a black tray-loading mechanism and a 512KB buffer.

24X maximum DVD write speed

The drive writes DVD+R and DVD-R single-layer media at up to 24X, while dual-layer formats reach 12X. CD-R recording tops out at 48X and CD-RW at 32X. This speed ceiling is the primary figure that determines whether the burner matches a specific workflow.

Low vibration and motor cooling for quiet operation

An improved chassis design adds dampers to reduce vibration-induced errors and operational noise during reads and writes. The layout also improves motor cooling to extend the drive's usable lifespan. Access times are rated at 130ms for CD-ROM and 160ms for DVD-ROM.

Questions about this item

How fast can the PX-891SAF write a standard single-layer DVD in my PC?

The drive writes DVD+R and DVD-R media at up to 24X, so a full single-layer disc finishes in roughly six minutes when the media and system can sustain that speed.

What does the SATA interface limit for this burner?

The SATA connection provides more bandwidth than the drive's 24X DVD or 48X CD maximums, so the interface does not cap recording performance.

What are the physical mounting requirements for this half-height drive?

It fits a standard 5.25-inch half-height bay, uses a tray loading mechanism, and connects via standard SATA data and power cables.
