Product Identity

The Point Grey Research FWB-PCIE-01 is a PCIe x1 adapter card that adds two FireWire 1394b ports to a desktop computer or server. It is built for users who need to connect legacy 1394 devices such as industrial cameras or external storage to a modern system. The card fits a standard PCIe x1 slot and is supplied in new condition.

Fit and Limits

This adapter suits technicians and integrators maintaining equipment that still relies on the 1394 interface for video capture or data transfer. It will not help buyers who need additional USB connectivity, nor those looking for a multi-port network upgrade. Systems without a free PCIe x1 slot cannot use this card.

Deciding Specification

The single specification that decides compatibility is the PCIe x1 interface combined with dual 1394b ports. If your motherboard has an available x1 slot and your peripherals use the 1394b standard, this card provides the required link.

Questions about this item

Does my motherboard need a free PCIe x1 slot to install the FWB-PCIE-01?

Yes, the card connects through a PCIe x1 interface, so an available x1 slot is required.

Can the FWB-PCIE-01 connect to legacy 1394a FireWire devices?

The adapter provides 1394b ports; compatibility with 1394a peripherals depends on the cable and device, not on this card alone.

How do I confirm the FWB-PCIE-01 is operating correctly after installation?

Check Device Manager for a 1394 host controller without errors, then attach a FireWire device and verify it appears and transfers data.
