PQI iConnect Mini 16GB Lightning & USB 3.0

The PQI iConnect Mini is a 16GB flash drive with a Lightning connector and a USB 3.0 interface. It is Apple MFi certified for use with iPhone, iPad and iPod models. The drive also works with Mac OS X 10.x or later and Windows XP through Windows 8. Its rose gold finish matches the colour of compatible Apple devices.

Sustained transfer with USB 3.0 interface

The USB 3.0 connector provides faster throughput than USB 2.0 when moving large photo libraries or video clips between the drive and a computer. Write speeds will vary with file size and host controller performance. The Lightning end is limited by the iOS device's own I/O subsystem, so sustained copies to an iPhone or iPad proceed at the rate the mobile hardware allows.

Plug-and-play with companion app

No driver installation is required on supported desktop operating systems. On iOS the drive works through a dedicated app that enables one-button backup, fingerprint-protected access and direct photo storage. The app must be installed and granted permissions before the first use. The drive's slim profile (0.31 x 0.50 x 1.75 inches) fits most cases, though very tight port recesses may need a case removal.

Questions about this item

Does the Lightning connector get warm or draw noticeable power when I leave it plugged into my iPhone for an all-day backup?

The drive uses a passive Lightning and USB 3.0 interface with no active components, so it adds negligible heat and draws only the tiny current needed for the flash memory during transfers.

What must I already own to use the instant one-button backup and fingerprint protection features?

You need an iPhone, iPad or iPod with a Lightning port running iOS, or a Mac with OS X 10.x or later, plus the free companion app installed on the device.

Will the USB 3.0 end work at full speed on my older Windows 7 laptop that only has USB 2.0 ports?

Yes, the USB 3.0 connector is backward-compatible and will operate at USB 2.0 speeds on those ports while still providing the 16 GB of storage.
