Presco 6-Inch x 1000-Foot Detectable Tape

This non-adhesive underground warning tape is built for utility crews, contractors and municipal teams marking buried fibre-optic, electrical or gas lines. The 5-mil reinforced laminate survives direct burial and helps locators pinpoint assets before excavation begins.

Check locator compatibility and trench depth

Verify that your non-ferrous locator can detect the solid aluminum foil core at the intended burial depth. Ensure the trench width accommodates the full 6-inch roll and that backfill material will not puncture the polyethylene outer film during compaction.

USA-made laminate with APWA colour coding

The tape uses a 0.8 mil polypropylene layer, a 0.35 mil aluminum core and a 3.75 mil polyethylene layer, all manufactured domestically. Black ink printing on the orange surface meets APWA standard colours for permanent, legible warnings that resist fading from -60F to 250F.

Questions about this item

What comes in the box and is anything else needed for installation?

The roll is 6 inches wide by 1000 feet long with no adhesive, so you only need the tape itself and a non-ferrous locator to trace it after burial.

How do I decide between the 3-inch and 6-inch wide versions?

The 6-inch width gives a larger detectable surface for deeper or wider utility trenches, while the 3-inch roll suits narrower excavations; both are 1000 feet long.

What does the 5-mil thickness mean when the tape is buried?

The construction — .8 mil polypropylene, .35 mil aluminum foil core and 3.75 mil polyethylene — totals 5 mil and withstands -60F to 250F for long-term underground performance.
