What this adapter does

The PROZOR DAC01s converts coaxial or Toslink digital PCM signals into analogue stereo RCA and 3.5 mm jack outputs simultaneously. It accepts sampling rates of 32 kHz, 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, 96 kHz and 192 kHz at 24-bit depth. The aluminium alloy housing provides electromagnetic shielding and operates up to 85 °C.

When to choose this over a basic connection

Use this DAC when your source only provides digital optical or coaxial outputs but your amplifier, powered speakers or headphones require analogue inputs. The jump is worth it if you need simultaneous RCA and 3.5 mm feeds or gold-plated RCA connectors for a more reliable long-term connection. It does not suit setups that need 5.1-channel decoding or a built-in volume control.

Limits of the optical and coaxial interface

The adapter handles uncompressed two-channel LPCM or PCM only; it cannot decode multi-channel bitstreams such as Dolby Digital or DTS. It requires a 5 V DC USB power source and the source device must be set to PCM output. The fixed line-level output means level adjustment must be performed at the source or the connected amplifier.
