What this KVM switch does

The Raritan DKX2-216 Dominion KX II is a 16-port digital KVM switch designed for server-room administrators who need centralised keyboard, video and mouse control over multiple rack-mounted systems. It fits a standard rack and provides local console access through a VGA connection.

Video resolution limit

The maximum supported video resolution is 1600 x 1200 over an HD15 VGA port, so this unit suits legacy and current servers that output analogue VGA at that resolution. Higher-resolution digital sources or DisplayPort and HDMI connections are not supported by this model.

Port count and network access

Sixteen server ports allow direct management of up to sixteen machines from a single console, while dual 10/100/1000 gigabit Ethernet ports give remote administrators secure IP access. PS/2 ports are provided for local keyboard and mouse attachment, but USB console peripherals are not supported.

Questions about this item

What does 1600 x 1200 resolution deliver when the KVM is connected to my servers?

Each of the 16 ports can display up to 1600 x 1200 pixels over the VGA link, so every connected server appears at that resolution on the shared console.

What does the dual 10/100/1000 gigabit Ethernet access cap in practice?

The two RJ-45 network ports each negotiate at 10, 100 or 1000 Mbps, limiting remote KVM traffic and management bandwidth to a maximum of 1 Gbps per port.

What does the rack-mountable form factor require to install?

The unit is built for standard rack mounting; use the included brackets to secure it in a rack cabinet.
