Emergency power radio

The Raynic CR1009 is a portable weather radio built for emergency preparedness. It receives AM, FM, shortwave and seven preset NOAA weather channels to deliver alerts for events such as hurricanes, tornadoes and floods. Five power sources — hand crank, solar panel, built-in rechargeable cell, AAA batteries and AC power — keep the unit running when the grid fails. It is suited for households, campers and anyone assembling a disaster kit.

5000mAh capacity and limits

The integrated 5000mAh lithium cell stores 18500mWh and can top up a smartphone for a brief call or text via the USB output. The 3W LED flashlight and 2.5W reading lamp provide useful close-range light during outages. Extended use of the SOS siren, lamp or phone charging will deplete the reserve quickly, so the crank and solar inputs are essential for multi-day situations. The 3.5mm headphone jack allows private listening without draining the speaker.

Upgrade from basic alert radios

This model replaces single-power emergency radios that rely only on disposable cells or mains electricity. The jump is worth it when you need redundant charging paths and integrated lighting in one compact unit. It is not for users who require automatic Specific Area Message Encoding alerts, digital tuning presets, Bluetooth audio streaming or a larger battery bank for multiple device recharges.

Physical specs and audio

The radio measures 6.9 by 2.4 by 3.9 inches and weighs one pound, fitting easily in a go-bag or glove compartment. Analog tuning covers AM, FM, shortwave and the seven NOAA channels with a simple rotary dial. Output power is rated at 2.5 watts through the built-in speaker, adequate for a room or tent. The IPX3 rating protects against light rain or splashes during outdoor use.
