PCIe x4 SSD Adapter for MacBook Air and Pro

This PCIe x4 adapter connects Apple SSD modules from supported MacBook Air and Pro Retina models to a desktop PCI Express x4, x8 or x16 slot. It handles 2013 to 2017 MacBook Air A1465 and A1466 units plus 2013 to 2015 MacBook Pro Retina A1398 and A1502 units. The card measures 9.8 cm by 5.4 cm and provides read and write access to the SSD.

Suits data recovery and secondary storage.

The adapter works when you need to read or write files on a compatible Apple SSD from a Windows or Linux desktop. It does not function as a system startup disk, so builders who want a bootable macOS drive should look elsewhere. It also excludes 2012 MacBook Air A1465 or A1466 SSDs, 2010 and 2011 models, and 2012 or Early 2013 MacBook Pro A1425 and A1398 SSDs.

Requires correct pin orientation on the SSD module

The SSD must present a forward side with 16 plus 12 pins and a back side with 14 plus 11 pins to match the adapter's connector. Inserting a module with a different pin layout will not work, even if the model year falls within the supported range. Verify the physical pin count on your SSD before purchase.

Questions about this item

What comes in the box with the RIITOP A1465 adapter and do I need anything else?

The package includes one PCIe SSD adapter card. You must supply a compatible Apple SSD from a supported MacBook Air or Pro Retina model and a desktop motherboard with a free PCIe x4, x8 or x16 slot.

My MacBook is a 2014 MacBook Air A1466 — will this adapter work with its SSD?

Yes, the adapter supports 2013-2014 MacBook Air models A1465 and A1466 including part numbers MD711, MD712, MD760 and MD761. It does not support the 2012 A1466 or any 2010-2011 models.

Can I boot Windows from an Apple SSD connected through this card?

No, the manufacturer states the adapter only supports reading and writing data on the SSD and cannot be used as a system startup disk. You would need to boot from another drive and access the Apple SSD as secondary storage.
