Marine media receiver for open-cockpit vehicles

The Rockford Fosgate PMX-0 is a compact digital media receiver built for motorcycles, ATVs, side-by-sides and boats. Its IPX6 rating protects the internal circuitry from powerful water jets and heavy splashes. The chassis measures 2.5 by 4.1 by 2.6 inches and weighs 12.8 ounces, allowing installation in tight dash openings. Bluetooth streaming and a rear auxiliary input give two ways to connect a phone or portable player.

Upgrade from basic single-source units

This receiver replaces simple radios or single-input controllers that lack zone outputs or subwoofer management. The jump is worth it when you need three sets of RCA outputs to drive front, rear and subwoofer amplifiers independently. Independent subwoofer level control on the front panel lets you adjust bass without navigating menus. USB is provided for device charging only and does not support media playback.

Sustained output in wet.

The IPX6 seal maintains protection during continuous exposure to spray, rain or wash-down cycles rather than brief splashes alone. Rear-mounted RCA connections stay secure under vibration typical of off-road and marine use. Three preamp output pairs deliver consistent signal voltage to external amplifiers over long runs. The two-year manufacturer warranty covers defects through extended seasonal use.

Questions about this item

What are the exact cut-out dimensions for mounting the PMX-0 receiver?

The unit measures 2.5 inches long, 4.1 inches wide and 2.6 inches high; allow a few millimetres extra on each side for the bezel and wiring clearance.

Which wiring step is most often missed when installing this marine receiver?

Connecting the USB port only provides charging — it does not carry audio — so you must also run the rear auxiliary RCAs or pair a device via Bluetooth for music playback.

How should the front-panel subwoofer control be checked during routine maintenance?

Rotate the independent subwoofer level knob through its full range while the system is playing; if the bass output does not vary smoothly, the potentiometer or its wiring may need service.
