Extends four USB 2.0 ports up to 492 ft over Cat5, Cat6 or Cat6a cable using bus power
This Rocstor Y10G004B1 extender transmits four USB 2.0 signals over a single Cat5, Cat6 or Cat6a cable up to 150 metres (492 feet). It is bus powered, so no external power supply is required at either end. The unit suits offices, classrooms or industrial settings where USB peripherals must sit far from the host computer.
Ideal for connecting keyboards, mice, printers or scanners across a building without running multiple USB cables. It does not support USB 3.0 speeds, so users who need 5 Gbit/s throughput should look at a different solution. The extender also cannot supply high bus power to charging-hungry devices such as tablets or bus-powered hard drives.
Connect the local unit to the host, the remote unit to the peripherals, and link them with a solid-core Cat5e or better cable. The most common issue is using stranded patch cable or exceeding the 150-metre limit, which causes intermittent disconnects. Ensure the cable run avoids tight bends and electromagnetic interference from power lines.
