Rode NTG-1 Shotgun Microphone

The Rode NTG-1 is a directional condenser shotgun microphone built for film, video, television, voice-over and ENG work. Its lightweight construction suits direct mounting on cameras or boom poles. The bundle adds a Rycote 15cm foam windscreen with 19mm and 22mm options, a zip pouch and a mic clip for immediate field use.

48V Phantom Power Operation

The microphone requires 48V phantom power compliant with the P48 standard and delivers an electronically balanced output. Without a mixer, recorder or interface that supplies this voltage the unit will not function. No battery compartment or alternative powering method is provided in the design.

Supercardioid Polar Pattern

The supercardioid pickup focuses on the subject while rejecting off-axis sound, making it the decisive spec for isolating dialogue in noisy environments. Users needing a wider pickup for ambient scenes or group discussions should choose a different polar pattern.

Questions about this item

How do I choose between the 19mm and 22mm foam windscreens in the bundle?

The bundle includes a Rycote 15cm foam windscreen with both 19mm and 22mm holes; select the size that matches the microphone barrel diameter for a snug fit.

What does the 48V P48 phantom power requirement mean for my recorder or mixer?

The NTG-1 needs standard 48V P48 phantom power; your recorder, mixer or camera XLR input must supply 48V for the microphone to operate.

What does the supercardioid polar pattern actually do on set?

The supercardioid pattern focuses pickup directly in front while rejecting sound from the sides and rear, reducing ambient noise when boomed or camera-mounted.
