Dual-Powered Shotgun Microphone

The Rode NTG2 is a lightweight condenser shotgun microphone built for film, video, television and voice-over work. It captures full-range audio with low noise and high transparency. The microphone weighs 161 g without a battery, making it practical for boom operation. It suits professionals who need reliable location sound.

Super-Cardioid Pattern and High-Pass Filter

The super-cardioid polar pattern focuses on the subject while reducing background noise. A selectable high-pass filter at 80 Hz removes low-frequency rumble such as air-conditioners or traffic. Frequency response spans 20 Hz to 20 kHz for natural voice and ambience capture. It handles typical dialogue and environmental sound comfortably.

XLR Output with Battery or Phantom Power

The NTG2 connects via XLR and runs from either a 1.5 V AA battery or 48 V phantom power supplied by cameras, recorders or mixers. Battery operation enables use with DSLRs that lack phantom power. The bundle includes a 14 cm Rycote long-hair wind diffuser for outdoor wind protection. Buyers needing wireless connectivity or USB output will need a different solution.

Questions about this item

Will the NTG2 work with my older camera that only supplies 1.5 V battery power and no phantom power?

Yes, the NTG2 runs from a single AA 1.5 V battery, so it operates on cameras without 48 V phantom power.

How can I confirm the high-pass filter is active after setup?

Engage the 80 Hz filter switch; low-frequency rumble such as air-conditioner hum should drop noticeably in your headphones.

Does the bundle include the Rycote 14 cm wind diffusion and a battery, or must I buy them separately?

The bundle supplies the Rycote 14 cm wind diffusion; the AA 1.5 V battery is not included and must be purchased separately.
