On-Camera Shotgun Microphone for Video

The RODE VideoMic Pro R is a professional-grade shotgun microphone engineered for seamless integration with camcorders, DSLR cameras and portable audio recorders. It centres on a 1/2" condenser capsule that delivers broadcast-quality audio through a 3.5 mm minijack connector, sending a mono signal to both left and right channels for consistent capture.

Sustained Recording Performance

The supercardioid polar pattern focuses on sound directly in front of the camera while significantly reducing surrounding noise in dynamic environments. An equivalent noise level of just 14 dB ensures exceptional clarity during extended sessions, and the integrated Rycote Lyre shock mounting system isolates the capsule from vibrations and rumble without the degradation common to elastic suspensions.

3.5 mm Minijack Output Constraint

The microphone outputs a mono signal over a single 3.5 mm minijack, so recorders or cameras must accept an unbalanced stereo plug wired mono to both channels. Buyers whose devices require XLR inputs, digital audio interfaces or plug-in power on a different connector will need a different solution.

Questions about this item

How much self-noise does the microphone add when it runs all day?

The equivalent noise level is 14 dB, so the mic adds very little hiss even during long sessions.

What connector does my camera or recorder need for the 3.5 mm output?

A standard 3.5 mm minijack microphone input is required; the mic sends a mono signal to both left and right channels.

Will the Rycote Lyre shock mount fit the cold shoe on my older DSLR?

The integrated Lyre mount slides into a standard camera shoe, so it works with most DSLRs and camcorders that have one.
