Hotel power control switch

The Ruth's sister magnetic card switch is a wall-mounted energy-saving device designed for hotel rooms, villas and residential buildings. It uses an inserted magnetic key to enable or cut the entire electrical supply to the room. The unit fits a standard 86 mm mounting box and operates on a 220 V supply.

Replaces mechanical key-card switches

This unit upgrades older mechanical card holders that wear out or fail to break the circuit cleanly. The magnetic operation removes moving contacts from the insertion path, reducing failure rates in high-turnover environments. The change is worth it when maintenance calls for stuck or broken key readers become frequent.

Sustained load behaviour

The switch is rated for a continuous load of 6600 W at 30 A across the 50 Hz to 60 Hz mains frequency range. It operates without an on-off delay, so the circuit opens immediately when the card is removed. The fireproof PC housing is specified for an operating window of -20 to 50 degrees Celsius.

Questions about this item

Will the 86 mm by 86 mm faceplate fit a standard Type 86 wall box?

Yes, the switch is sized at 86 mm by 86 mm by 37 mm to match a standard Type 86 mounting box.

How is the 220 V supply wired to the switch terminals, and what mistake should I avoid?

Connect live and neutral to the marked input terminals; the common error is reversing them, which prevents the relay from operating.

How often should the three magnetic cards be replaced under normal hotel use?

The cards are passive magnetic inserts with no battery or electronics, so they do not wear out and need no scheduled replacement.
