PowerEdge R320 R420 R520 heatsink

This CPU cooling heatsink carries part number CN-0XHMDT and is built for Dell PowerEdge R320, R420 and R520 servers. It replaces the original XHMDT heat sink cooler radiator in those 1U and 2U chassis. System administrators maintaining these platforms can install it directly without adapter brackets.

Passive aluminium fin stack

The unit relies on the server's internal airflow to move heat away from the processor socket. No fan is integrated, so acoustic output depends entirely on the chassis fan curve configured in the iDRAC or BIOS. Power draw is limited to the CPU thermal design power the heatsink is rated to dissipate.

Questions about this item

How do I install the CN-0XHMDT heatsink in a PowerEdge R320 and which step is most often missed?

Align the four mounting holes with the CPU socket frame, press down evenly until the clips click, then connect the fan header; the step most often missed is re-attaching the fan power cable before closing the chassis.

What maintenance or replacement will the CN-0XHMDT heatsink need over time in a PowerEdge R420?

Clean dust from the fins every six to twelve months with compressed air; replace the unit if the fan bearings become noisy or if thermal paste dries out and temperatures rise.
