The Realtek RTL8156BG controller is chosen for low-latency and low-CPU operation that remains stable during prolonged transfers. An aluminum housing acts as a heatsink to maintain cool performance under continuous load. The adapter auto-negotiates between 2.5G, 1G and 100M speeds depending on the connected switch or router. Status LEDs give immediate feedback on link and activity during long sessions.

2.5GBASE-T practical limits

Full 2.5Gbps throughput requires a 2.5G-capable router or switch and CAT5e or better cabling. The 802.3bz standard supports this speed over 100 metres of such cable. The adapter falls back to 1GbE or 100Mbps on older networks and functions on USB 2.0 ports at reduced bandwidth. Wake-on-LAN and PXE boot are supported for managed environments.
