4 TB Thunderbolt 5 portable SSD

The Sabrent Rocket XTRM 5 delivers 4 TB of portable storage with a Thunderbolt 5 interface rated at 80 Gbps connection and up to 64 Gbps transfer. It is aimed at content creators and professionals who move large media libraries between workstations in the field. The drive is bus-powered and ships with a premium Thunderbolt cable for immediate use. No external power adapter is required.

Sustained throughput with aluminium cooling

An aluminium chassis acts as a heatsink to dissipate heat during long transfers, helping the controller maintain high sequential read speeds of 8000 megabytes per second. The drive remains compatible with Thunderbolt 3, Thunderbolt 4 and USB4 hosts at 10, 20 and 40 Gbps, plus USB 3.2 fallback at 20, 10 and 5 Gbps. Performance scales to the host capability so sustained writes stay consistent across mixed workloads. Thermal throttling is reduced by the metal body under continuous load.

Rugged sleeve and simple installation

A removable silicone sleeve wraps the aluminium body for drop protection and environmental resistance during travel. The drive measures 4.13 in by 1.77 in by .57 in and weighs 3.35 ounces, fitting easily into a laptop bag. Plug-and-play operation means no driver installation on modern operating systems. Users must ensure their host port supplies enough bus power for the 4 TB capacity; some older USB-A ports may not provide sufficient current.

Questions about this item

Does the aluminium body keep the drive cool enough for all-day transfers?

The aluminium enclosure is designed for heat dissipation during sustained workloads, and the drive draws power from the host port so no external adapter adds extra heat.

Which host ports can actually connect to the drive?

It works with Thunderbolt 5, 4 and 3 ports plus USB4 at 40, 20 and 10 Gbps, and falls back to USB 3.2 at 20, 10 and 5 Gbps.

Will I hit the same 64 Gbps ceiling on a Thunderbolt 4 laptop?

On Thunderbolt 4 the link tops out at 40 Gbps, so transfer speeds will be limited to that bandwidth instead of the 64 Gbps possible on Thunderbolt 5.
