  • 1 TB capacity stores games, media and work files

Form factor 2230 for tight spaces

This Samsung PM991a is a 1 TB internal SSD built in the 2230 M.2 size. It uses an NVMe interface over PCIe Gen 3x4. Sequential reads reach 3100 MB/s and writes reach 2000 MB/s. The drive measures 22 mm wide by 30 mm long. Hot plug and hot swap are supported.

Laptops and small PCs only

The 2230 length fits many thin laptops and compact desktops that cannot accept longer modules. Systems with M.2 slots limited to 2230 will work with this drive. Builds that require a longer module cannot use this part.

Capacity 1 TB decides the fit

The single specification that determines suitability is the 1 TB capacity. If the workload needs more space, this model is not enough. If 1 TB matches the requirement, the drive delivers the stated NVMe speeds in the 2230 form factor.

Questions about this item

Will the 2230 form factor fit my laptop's M.2 slot?

The drive measures 22 mm wide by 30 mm long, so it fits any M.2 2230 key-M slot. Check your service manual to confirm the slot length before ordering.

What sequential speeds can I expect from the PM991a?

Rated at 3100 MB/s read and 2000 MB/s write over a PCIe Gen 3 x4 link. Real-world throughput depends on the host controller and thermal conditions.

Does this SSD support hot swap in a laptop?

The specification lists Hot Plug Support and Hot Swap features, but actual support requires a laptop BIOS and M.2 implementation that enable surprise removal.
