What this drive is and who it fits

The Samsung Spinpoint M7E HM321HI is a 320GB 2.5-inch laptop hard drive with a SATA 3.0Gb/s interface. It spins at 5400 RPM and carries an 8MB cache. The unit is supplied as a bare drive in new condition. It suits owners of older notebooks or external enclosures that accept a standard 2.5-inch SATA mechanical drive.

Check your laptop before ordering

Verify that your system has a free 2.5-inch drive bay and a SATA data plus power connector. Confirm the BIOS or operating system can address a 320GB volume. Because the drive is a bare unit, no mounting screws, caddy or adapter are included; reuse hardware from the old drive or source it separately.

Who should buy it and who should not

This drive fits users replacing a failed mechanical drive in a legacy laptop or expanding a compatible external case. It is not for buyers who need the speed of a solid-state drive, who require a higher capacity for modern workloads, or whose device only accepts M.2 or PCIe storage.

Questions about this item

Does the bare-drive HM321HI include any mounting brackets, cables or software, or must they be purchased separately?

The HM321HI ships as a bare 2.5" drive only; mounting screws, SATA cables and cloning software are not included and must be sourced separately.

What real-world benefit does the 5400 RPM speed and 8 MB cache deliver when the drive is installed in a laptop?

The 5400 RPM spindle and 8 MB cache provide typical sequential throughput for everyday tasks such as OS boot, document editing and media playback on a SATA 3.0Gb/s connection.
