Desktop SSD for creative libraries

The SanDisk Desk Drive provides 8TB of solid-state storage in a desktop form factor. It connects via USB Type-C and is formatted exFAT for immediate use on Windows or Mac. Photographers, videographers and audio engineers can keep large project collections on a single drive.

Thermals and power in daily use

The drive draws power from the included AC adapter, so the host port is not burdened. No fan is present, so operation is silent during backups or streaming edits. The compact enclosure dissipates heat passively across its surface.

Bundled cables and software

A USB Type-C to Type-C cable and a USB Type-C to Type-A cable are supplied for broad host compatibility. Downloadable Acronis True Image for Western Digital enables automatic backup scheduling. Apple Time Machine integration is supported natively on macOS.

Questions about this item

How do I connect the SanDisk Desk Drive 8TB to my computer and which cable should I use?

Plug the included USB Type-C cable into the drive and a USB Type-C port on your computer, or use the supplied USB Type-C to USB Type-A cable for older ports. Connect the AC power adapter to the drive and a wall outlet before powering on.

What maintenance does the 8TB Desk Drive require and will any parts need replacing?

No scheduled maintenance is required; the solid-state design has no moving parts to wear out. Keep the AC power adapter and both cables safe, as they are the only external components that could need replacement if damaged.

What performance limit will I hit first during long, continuous transfers on this drive?

The USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface caps sustained read speeds at 1000MB/s, so the connection bandwidth is the first bottleneck you will encounter under heavy, prolonged workloads.
