SkyHawk AI 12 TB SATA surveillance drive

The Seagate SkyHawk AI ST12000VE003 is a 3.5-inch SATA hard drive built for AI-enabled video recording systems. It targets installers and integrators who run network video recorders or analytics appliances that need continuous, high-capacity storage. The drive is sold new and optimised for workloads that combine standard recording with real-time AI inference.

Suits multi-camera AI NVRs.

This drive suits deployments that require up to 64 HD camera streams plus 32 concurrent AI streams, with a 550 TB per year workload rating and ImagePerfect AI firmware that prevents dropped frames. It is not intended for general-purpose desktop storage, gaming libraries, or archival cold storage where surveillance-specific firmware and workload tuning provide no benefit.

12 TB capacity decides fit for retention windows

The single specification that determines suitability is the 12000 GB capacity, which sets the total footage and AI metadata retention achievable before overwrite. Match this capacity against the required days of retention, camera bit-rates, and AI stream count to confirm the drive meets the project's storage budget.

Questions about this item

What SATA host controller or backplane must my NVR or server already provide for this 3.5" drive to connect?

The drive uses a standard SATA III interface, so any 3.5" bay or backplane with a SATA data and power connector will accept it.

Will the 12000 GB capacity and 550 TB/yr workload rating coexist with older surveillance drives in the same RAID array?

Yes, it operates alongside other SATA drives; the 550 TB/yr rating and ImagePerfect AI firmware keep frame integrity even in mixed-drive arrays.

How can I verify SkyHawk Health Management and ImagePerfect AI are active after installation?

Enable SMART monitoring in the NVR or server OS; SHM reports drive health and the firmware maintains zero dropped frames during AI stream recording.
