Ultrathin 500 GB laptop drive

This Seagate ST500LT032 is a 2.5-inch internal hard drive measuring 5 mm in height. It spins at 5400 RPM, connects via SATA 6.0Gb/s, and provides 500 GB of storage with a 16 MB cache. The bare drive weighs 3.3 oz and is designed for thin-and-light notebooks.

Suits slim notebooks; not for speed or heavy writes

Builders upgrading ultra-thin laptops or compact enclosures that accept only a 5 mm drive will find the form factor a direct fit. Buyers who need faster spindle speeds, larger cache, or solid-state responsiveness should consider other options. The drive is supplied as a bare unit without mounting brackets or cables.

5 mm z-height decides fit

The 5 mm profile is the critical dimension that determines whether this drive fits a specific bay. Systems requiring a 7 mm or taller drive cannot accept this model. Average seek time is under 13 ms, average write time under 15 ms, and average latency is 5.6 ms.
