Compact document safe with key lock

The Sentry Safe 1170 is a steel security safe finished in matte paint that offers .61 cubic feet of interior space. It uses a flat key lock with a spare key and holds letter-size hanging files to keep records organised. UL classification confirms 30 minutes of fire protection at up to 1,550 degrees F. The unit weighs 27.9 pounds and measures 15.3 by 12.1 by 13.6 inches externally.

Suits home offices needing basic fire protection

This safe fits users who want a straightforward keyed lock and enough room for documents, tablets, phones and small media. It is not for buyers who need a digital keypad, biometric entry or a larger capacity for binders and bulky equipment. The 60-day manufacturer warranty covers defects only.

UL 30-minute fire rating at 1,550 °F

The single specification that decides suitability is the UL classification for 30 minutes at 1,550 degrees Fahrenheit. If your risk assessment requires a longer fire endurance or a higher temperature rating, this model will not meet that requirement.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the .61 cu ft model or a larger capacity?

This safe provides .61 cubic feet of interior space measuring 12 x 8.5 x 10.4 inches, suited for letter-size hanging files and small electronics; choose a larger unit only if you need more volume for bulkier items.

What does the 30 minute 1550°F fire rating protect in daily use?

The UL classification means the interior stays below the critical temperature for paper and media for up to 30 minutes in a fire reaching 1550°F, giving time for emergency response.

How does the flat key lock perform compared with electronic locks?

The flat key lock uses a physical key with a spare included, requiring no batteries or codes, so access is immediate but depends on keeping the key secure.
