Thunderbolt 2 Male-to-Male Cable

This cable connects Thunderbolt-equipped MacBook Pro and iMac models directly to compatible peripherals. It carries two independent 10Gbit/s channels for high-speed data and video signals. The male-to-male design links host and device without an intermediate adapter. It is intended for users who need a direct Thunderbolt link between Apple systems and Thunderbolt storage or displays.

Build Integration with Thunderbolt Ports

The cable plugs into native Thunderbolt ports on supported Macs, freeing USB-C or DisplayPort sockets for other accessories. It enables target display mode so a compatible iMac can serve as a monitor for a Thunderbolt MacBook Pro. No external power supply is required because the connection draws bus power. The link handles both data and video simultaneously over a single cable run.

Upgrade from Mini DisplayPort Cables

This cable replaces Mini DisplayPort leads that cannot carry Thunderbolt protocol traffic. The jump is worth it when you need full 10Gbit/s per channel throughput for RAID arrays or high-resolution displays. It will not function with Mini DisplayPort-only devices or non-Thunderbolt hosts. Buyers who need longer runs or optical extension should consider active Thunderbolt alternatives instead.
