M.2 to U.2 NVMe adapter card

The Linkreal LRNV45N1 connects an M.2 M-key NVMe SSD to a U.2 (SFF-8639) or SFF-8643 host port. It accepts 2230, 2242, 2260, 2280 and 22110 mm modules up to 1.5 mm component height. The board uses a PCIe 3.0 x4 link and works with PCIe 2.0 or 1.0 systems.

Builders adding NVMe storage via U.2

Suits integrators who have a free U.2 SFF-8639 or SFF-8643 connector and want to install standard M.2 NVMe drives. Not for users lacking a U.2 or SFF-8643 port, or those needing to connect B-key or B/M-key modules. OS support covers Windows 7 through 10 and Linux kernel 3.16.

M-key NVMe requirement

Only M-key NVMe SSDs function with this adapter; B-key or B/M-key drives will not work. Maximum on-board component height is 1.5 mm and double-sided modules are supported. A free U.2 SFF-8639 or SFF-8643 port is required for installation.

Questions about this item

Will the M.2 NVMe SSD I fit into the LRNV45N1 adapter need any firmware updates or maintenance down the line?

The adapter itself is a passive board with no firmware; any future maintenance would be limited to the NVMe SSD you install and its own manufacturer updates.

What is the first bottleneck I will hit if I run this adapter at full speed all day?

The data path is limited to 6.0 Gbps by the SFF-8639 U.2 link, so sustained transfers will saturate that ceiling before the PCIe 3.0 x4 host bus does.

Does the LRNV45N1 generate noticeable heat or noise when a drive is operating continuously?

The card has no active cooling or moving parts; heat output depends entirely on the installed NVMe SSD, which typically stays within its own thermal limits without extra airflow.
