Shepherd Caster 29XW85 Swivel Stem Caster

The Shepherd Caster 29XW85 is a zinc-plated steel swivel stem caster designed for yard equipment such as wheelbarrows and carts. It features a 5 in. rubber wheel with a vinyl tread that is non-marking and a threaded 1/2 in.-13 x 1 in. stem for secure mounting. The assembly supports a 280 lb load rating and sits at a 6 1/64 in. mounting height.

Suitable for light-duty yard carts and wheelbarrows

This caster suits owners repairing or upgrading single-wheel yard carts and wheelbarrows that accept a threaded 1/2 in.-13 stem. It is not for applications exceeding the 280 lb load rating or requiring a plate, grip-ring, or larger-diameter stem. Buyers needing higher capacity or a different mounting pattern should look elsewhere.

280 lb load rating decides fit

The single specification that determines whether this is the correct part is the 280 lb load rating combined with the threaded 1/2 in.-13 x 1 in. stem. Verify that your equipment's weight per caster stays within this limit and that the stem matches the existing mounting hole before purchase.

Questions about this item

Will the rubber tread on the 5 in. wheel need replacing after heavy yard use?

The rubber tread is bonded to the wheel core; replace the entire caster once the tread wears through or the wheel no longer rolls smoothly.

What load limit will I hit first when the cart is fully loaded and moving constantly?

The caster is rated for 280 lb; exceeding that weight risks premature wheel deformation or stem failure.

Does the zinc-plated steel frame get hot or squeak after a full day of pushing?

The steel frame and ball bearing stay near ambient temperature; occasional light lubrication keeps the swivel quiet during extended use.
