Through-beam sensor for 20 m range

The Sick VS/VE18-4P3840 is a cylindrical through-beam photoelectric sensor built for industrial detection tasks. It uses an infrared LED to achieve a maximum sensing range of 20 m and an operating range of 14 m. The M18 x 1 threaded housing measures 75 mm in length with a radial optical axis. A 2.8° dispersion angle produces a 700 mm light spot at the rated operating distance.

Fits M18 mounts with 10–30 V DC supply

The sensor mounts directly into an M18 threaded hole and connects via a 4-pin M12 male connector. It operates on a 10 V DC to 30 V DC supply with a maximum current draw of 30 mA. The PNP switching output handles up to 100 mA and offers selectable light or dark switching through an external control cable. An IP67 enclosure rating and a –25 °C to +70 °C temperature range suit harsh environments.

Replaces shorter-range or fixed-output sensors

This unit upgrades installations that need longer reach than standard diffuse or retro-reflective types provide. The selectable switching mode replaces sensors with fixed logic, reducing stock variants. The 250 Hz switching frequency and 2 ms response time suit faster line speeds than slower legacy models. It is not for applications requiring background suppression, analogue output, or AC supply voltages.
