Industrial proximity sensor

The Sick VTE18-3N2940 is a cylindrical photoelectric proximity sensor designed for automated detection tasks in industrial environments. It operates on a 10 V DC to 30 V DC supply and provides an NPN dark-switching output through a male M12 4-pin connector. The IP67-rated plastic housing withstands ambient temperatures from –25 °C to +70 °C.

Sensing range and response limits

The sensor detects objects from 3 mm up to a maximum of 200 mm, with a specified sensing range of 3 mm to 170 mm using infrared LED light at a 2.8° dispersion angle. A potentiometer allows sensitivity adjustment, while the response time is 2 ms. Ripple must not exceed 10 % and power consumption is 30 mA, constraining the usable power budget.

Upgrade from basic limit switches

This unit replaces mechanical limit switches or lower-range optical sensors where non-contact detection up to 170 mm is required.
