The Sick VTF18-4P1940 is a cylindrical photoelectric proximity sensor with background blanking and a radial optical axis. It delivers a PNP switching output selectable between light and dark operation via an external control cable. The sensor suits automation engineers who need reliable object detection at short range in a compact M18 housing. It is not for applications requiring sensing distances beyond one hundred millimetres or analogue output signals.

Integration into a control system

The sensor operates on ten to thirty volts DC with a maximum ripple of ten percent and draws thirty milliamps. A four-pin M12 male connector provides the electrical interface while the focused infrared LED produces a three millimetre spot at fifty millimetres.
