Adds three 1394A FireWire ports at 400/200/100 Mbps via a 32-bit PCI slot for DV camcorders and drives
The SIIG NN-400012-S8 adds three external IEEE 1394 ports to a desktop through a 32-bit PCI slot. It targets owners of legacy PCs or Macs who need to connect DV camcorders, external hard drives, scanners or printers that still rely on the 1394A interface. The card supports Windows 98SE through Vista and Mac OS 8.6 or later, making it a practical choice for reviving older systems.
Built around a TI TSB43AB23 single chip, the adapter meets IEEE 1394-1995, 1394a-2000 and OHCI 1.1 standards, enabling plug-and-play device recognition without a reboot. Data rates of 400, 200 and 100 Mbps are available automatically depending on the attached peripheral. Hot-swapping lets users change cameras or drives while the machine stays powered on.
A compact printed-circuit board with a standard bracket fits typical PCI openings without blocking adjacent slots. The assembly carries FCC Class B and CE approvals and is RoHS-compliant, so it meets common office and home-environment regulations. Three 6-pin ports face the rear panel, providing a clean cable run for audio-video or storage devices.

The card uses the TI TSB43AB23 single chip and complies with IEEE 1394-1995, 1394a-2000 and OHCI 1.1; Windows 98SE through Vista and Mac OS 8.6 or later include native drivers, so no separate firmware or driver updates are required for standard operation.
The 32-bit PCI bus (PCI 2.2) and the 1394A standard both cap at 400 Mbps shared bandwidth, so simultaneous high-speed transfers on multiple ports will hit that aggregate ceiling first.
The single-chip TSB43AB23 design has no active cooling and draws minimal power from the PCI slot, so it adds negligible heat and zero fan noise during continuous use.
