Side-Opening Pressboard Report Cover

The Smead 81050 is a side-opening pressboard report cover in blue designed for loose-leaf document binding. A two-piece construction compresses material tightly to reduce bulk while a fastener compressor secures contents without damage. Matching Tyvek hinges resist tearing and support color-coded organisation. Suitable for presentations, reports and proposals requiring secure loose-leaf assembly.

Educators and offices needing compact binding

Teachers, students and administrators who need a simple way to bind letter-size papers will find the side-opening design practical. The cover holds documents securely without a ring mechanism. Buyers who require ring binders, pocket folders or expansion capacity for large volumes should consider other formats.

8 1/2-inch center hole spacing

The prong fasteners are spaced 8 1/2 inches center to center to match standard letter-size punching. This single measurement determines whether your pre-punched pages will align correctly. Verify your paper uses the same spacing before purchasing.

Questions about this item

Does the Smead 81050 require pre-punched paper with 8 1/2" centre-to-centre holes?

Yes, the cover uses a prong fastener spaced at 8 1/2" centre-to-centre, so sheets must be punched to match that spacing for a secure fit.

Will the Tyvek hinge hold up if I keep older, heavier report covers stacked beside it?

The tear-resistant Tyvek hinge is designed to compress material tightly without damaging the binder hinge, so it resists wear even when stored alongside bulkier covers.

How can I confirm the fastener compressor is seated correctly after assembly?

Press the compressor down until it locks; the two-piece cover should sit flat with no gaps and the blue Tyvek hinge should align evenly front to back.
