SMUGDESK

SMUGDESK 16K Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort 2.1 Cable 3.3FT 80Gbps

SKU CH-9K7M-1SBBB

Connects Mini DisplayPort devices to DisplayPort displays at up to 16K 60 Hz, 8K 120 Hz or 4K 240 Hz with 80 Gbps bandwidth and bi-directional support

  • Supports 16K at 60 Hz for ultra-sharp visuals
  • Delivers 8K at 120 Hz for smooth high-res motion
  • Handles 4K at 240 Hz for competitive gaming speed
  • 80 Gbps bandwidth carries uncompressed high-fidelity signals
  • Bi-directional Mini DP and full-size DP connectivity

Cable Purpose

This Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort 2.1 cable connects laptops and desktops with a Mini DisplayPort output to monitors, TVs or projectors with a standard DisplayPort input. It supports bi-directional transmission so the same cable works when the source has a full-size DisplayPort and the display has a Mini DisplayPort. The 3.3 ft length suits typical desk setups.

Installation Notes

Plug the Mini DisplayPort end into the source or display and the full-size DisplayPort end into the counterpart; the connection is passive and requires no drivers or external power. Ensure both ports are clean and fully seated to avoid signal drop-outs at 16K 60 Hz or 4K 240 Hz. The cable is backwards compatible with DisplayPort 1.4, 1.2 and 1.2a so it will negotiate the highest common link rate automatically.

Who This Suits

The cable suits users driving 16K 60 Hz, 8K 120 Hz or 4K 240 Hz displays from Thunderbolt 1 or 2 equipped MacBooks, gaming laptops or workstations with Mini DisplayPort outputs. Buyers needing longer runs, active signal boosting or connectors other than Mini DisplayPort and standard DisplayPort should look at alternative cable types.

Questions about this item

How can I confirm the cable is delivering 16K at 60 Hz after connecting it?

Check the display settings on the host device; the resolution should show 15360 × 8640 at 60 Hz and the link rate should indicate 80 Gbps.

What connectors come on the cable and is a separate Thunderbolt adapter needed?

The cable has a Mini DisplayPort plug on one end and a full-size DisplayPort plug on the other; it works directly with Thunderbolt 1 and Thunderbolt 2 ports without an extra adapter.

Which resolution and refresh combination should I pick for a 4K gaming monitor?

For a 3840 × 2160 panel the cable supports up to 240 Hz; choose 4K at 240 Hz in the graphics control panel for the highest refresh rate.
