What this cable does

This 10 ft SMUGDESK cable carries a Mini DisplayPort signal to a full-size DisplayPort display or the reverse. It supports 8K at 60 Hz, 4K at 144 Hz and 2K at 240 Hz over a 32.4 Gbps HBR3 link. The bi-directional design works with Thunderbolt 2 ports on MacBook models and with standard DisplayPort 1.4, 1.3, 1.2, 1.1 and 1.0 sources and sinks.

Sustained signal quality

Gold-plated connectors and a braided jacket protect the conductors during long sessions at 32.4 Gbps. The cable maintains HDR10, Dolby Vision and 10-bit colour without drop-outs at 8K 60 Hz or 4K 144 Hz. DSC 1.2 compression and VRR support keep variable-refresh gaming smooth over the full length. HDCP 2.2 compliance ensures protected content plays continuously.

Installing and common issues

Plug the Mini DP end into the laptop or GPU and the full-size DP end into the monitor; no driver or firmware step is required. The aluminium shells grip firmly, so pull the connector body rather than the cable when unplugging. Problems usually come from a loose port on older docks or from exceeding the 10 ft reach with an extender. The cable is not USB-C and will not fit a USB-C only port.

Questions about this item

Does the 10 ft length or 32.4 Gbps bandwidth cause any heat build-up during all-day use?

The cable is passive and draws no power, so it generates no heat and runs silently regardless of length or 32.4 Gbps throughput.

What ports must my laptop and monitor already have for this bi-directional cable to work?

One end needs a Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt 2 port and the other a full-size DisplayPort; the cable handles either direction automatically.

Will this cable work with my older DisplayPort 1.2 monitor and Mini DisplayPort 1.1 laptop?

Yes, the cable is backward compatible with DisplayPort 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3, so it will link those legacy ports at their native speeds.
