Three-pack USB 3.0 extension cables

This set contains three black USB 3.0 A-male to A-female extension cables, each 6.6 feet long. They extend the reach between a host computer and standard USB-A peripherals such as keyboards, mice, flash drives, printers and hard drives. The cables support SuperSpeed USB 3.0 data rates up to 5 Gbps and are backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1 ports. Gold-plated connectors, bare copper conductors and foil-and-braid shielding aim to ensure reliable signal quality.

Users needing longer reach for fixed USB-A devices

These extensions suit desktop users who need to route cables behind furniture or connect peripherals positioned farther from the host port. The three-pack offers spare cables for multiple workstations or device types. Buyers who require USB-C, Micro-B or Mini-B connectors should look elsewhere, as this product only provides Type-A ends. Anyone needing an active repeater cable for runs beyond the passive USB 3.0 length limit should also consider a different solution.

5 Gbps SuperSpeed USB 3.0 data rate

The decisive specification is the 5 Gbps maximum transfer speed, which applies only when both the host port and the connected device support USB 3.0. If either end is limited to USB 2.0 or 1.1, the link will fall back to the slower standard. Verify that your equipment has USB 3.0 Type-A ports to obtain the full performance benefit.

Questions about this item

Does the 6.6 ft cable generate heat or draw extra power when used all day?

The passive copper conductors and foil-and-braid shielding add no active circuitry, so the cable itself produces no measurable heat and draws no power beyond what the connected USB 3.0 device negotiates with the host.

What must I already own for this A-Male to A-Female extension to work?

You need a host with a USB 3.0 Type-A port and a peripheral that also uses a USB 3.0 Type-A plug; the cable simply bridges the two.

Will this extension slow down my older USB 2.0 hard drive enclosure?

The cable is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1, so the enclosure will run at its native 2.0 speed without signal degradation from the shielding.
